AOC 66H—Medical–Surgical Nurse/Case Manager Description of duties

Scope of practice includes medical–surgical clinical areas such as inpatient, ambulatory, emergent, or outpatient settings, in both the TDA and MTOE environment.

Provides nursing care to all types of combat casualties during low/high-intensity conflicts, wartime environments, and other contingency activities. Responsible for managing patient medical-hold section of Role II. Evaluate soldier’s pre-mobilization health and readiness physically, mentally, and emotionally. Provide soldier focused care to review, evaluate, and provide guidance regarding appropriate care for identified medical conditions, profiles, and line of duty investigations. Provides assistance to the Unit Commander by completing administrative aspects on the day-to-day operational duties within the Unit. Nurse Officers demonstrate and apply progressive and integrative levels of clinical, administrative, educational, and research knowledge and skills in their career development. Expert medical–surgical nurses are role models for the specialty, providing leadership and scientifically based programs for effective nursing practice.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS AT TIME OF APPLICATION:

a. Maximum age is 48.

b. Must be a US Citizen.

c. Must possess a minimum SECRET security clearance.

d. Must not be under current suspension of favorable personnel actions or have reason to be under current suspension of favorable personnel actions.

e. Applicant cannot be on permanent or temporary medical profile and eligible to meet appointment/reappointment medical standards IAW PPOM 23-044.

f. An applicant must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an education program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and acceptable to the Department of the Army, listed below. An associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) will not be accepted.

g. All graduates of an accredited nursing program are required to take the National Council Licensure Examination–Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN) to receive a license. All licenses ever held by an applicant must be verified with the respective State board of nursing. If any license has ever been restricted, probationary, or revoked due to professional misconduct, the individual is ineligible to apply.

h. Army Nurse (AN) applicants must be practicing as a RN in the United States. Applicants must have a minimum of 6 months experience as an RN (A minimum of 20 hours per week in a clinical setting or a full-time student in a higher-level nursing degree program (MSN or doctoral).

NOTICE

This packet is for nomination for Direct Appointment ONLY. Nomination does not guarantee that the selected Soldier will be appointed as an Officer in the OKARNG. The Adjutant General is final approval authority for all nominees. Upon nomination, selectee(s) must be accepted by State Surgeon’s Office and additionally apply for appointment through the United States Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) Medical Accession Board and be approved by the Federal Recognition Board (FRB). Applications will only be kept for 1 year. After 1 year applicant must reapply for position.

 

Special Instructions

  • Partial or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • Applications will be prescreened prior to a nomination board. Applicants not meeting the listed requirements in the FY 2025 Nurse Direct Appointment Announcement will be notified by email of packet disapproval.
  • Selected applicants will report to an in-person board held at 6800 N. Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73111 on 03 MAY 2025.
  • Current AGR’s may apply; however, if nominated and approved by USAREC and the FRB, they MUST resign from the AGR program in order to accept their commission.
  • Current Technician Soldiers may apply; however, if nominated and approved by USAREC and the FRB, J1/HRO approval is required prior to commissioning.
  • No promise of unit of assignment or regional location of assignment is made. If nominated and approved by USAREC and the FRB, Soldiers will be assigned based on the needs of the Oklahoma Army National Guard.

OKNG Form 113 (Sep 2023) (Commanders Certification of Current Weight) certifying current height and weight (dated within the last 30 days), (with DA Form 5500-R/5501-R if required), with body fat computations completed before closing date of this announcement). Must be certified by the Soldier’s Commander or Full Time BN AO. 
  1. ACFT for record within the past 6 months. Submit using ITR (Individual Training Record) report out of DTMS (Digital Training Management System) 
  1. DA Form 2166-8 NCOER / DA Form 67-8/9 OERs – last 5 copies, if applicable.
