Hello, I’m SFC Guevara

I look back knowing that my grandfather and many of my uncles served our country in the military. I remember the way they carried themselves with pride and the way they honored this great nation with their service and sacrifices. Because of this I knew from a very young age that I wanted to serve, but I just didn’t know which branch of service to choose. I actually served my first 8 years in the Army Reserves after I joined as a senior in high school. Though I enjoyed being in the Army Reserves I found that I was missing something. I was missing that connection with my community that so many others who were serving in the Army National Guard had. I watched as they completed State Active Duty (SAD) missions in response to major disasters, such as floods and tornadoes. I was envious of the way they worked within their own communities as civic leaders, trade workers, and teachers. This was what I was missing and in August of 2000 I found an Army National Guard recruiter and began my journey as a “Citizen Soldier”.

Through the numerous benefits of the Army National Guard I was able to complete a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and a Master’s in Business Administration, which led to great civilian jobs. This also helped me to provide a stable and financially secure home for my family. I have served in several different jobs within the military. In the military we call those jobs a Military Occupational Specialty or MOS. I have fired huge artillery pieces as a 13B Artilleryman. I have fired small arms weapons and crew served weapons as an 11B Infantryman. I have even pushed dirt and blew up rocks while serving as a 12N Heavy Construction Equipment Operator. I have also served as a door gunner on a Chinook Helicopter in Afghanistan. As a recruiter I share my experiences with others and I educate people on the opportunities available in the Guard. I look forward to working with you as you pursue your own journey.
